McFadden Utilities is a WIRS-accredited, WIAPS-approved water infrastructure contractor based in Hertfordshire, delivering water infrastructure services to UK water companies and Tier 1 providers for over 40 years. We work as a direct delivery partner for Affinity Water, and Thames Water, handling repair and maintenance, main laying, leak detection, and metering work on their networks.
Water infrastructure services at McFadden cover the full network lifecycle. On the reactive side that means 24/7 burst mains response, planned water mains repair, water network maintenance, valve and hydrant work, and water infrastructure maintenance at pace. On the planned side we deliver main laying, mains rehabilitation, lead pipe replacement, flow metering, and leakage reduction schemes aligned to AMP8 capital programmes.
We are a family-run business, and that shows in the way we work. The teams on site are our own. The accreditations are ours. The programme, the paperwork, and the quality sign-offs are all handled under one roof. One contractor, one point of contact, one set of responsibilities. That is what water company specification teams tell us they want, and what we have been built around for over 40 years.
Our work meets water company specification every time, because we're the same team doing it from start to finish. No subcontractor handoffs, no gaps in accountability.
Paul McFadden, Director
Most of our day-to-day water infrastructure work is for Affinity Water, where McFadden teams operate out of the Rickmansworth and Staines depots running 24/7 standby crews across the network. Over four decades we have become part of how the network gets maintained, and the projects in this section are a snapshot of that work.
For Thames Water, we have conducted projects including main laying, mains rehabilitation, and reinforcement schemes. If you are a water company capital delivery team or a Tier 1 provider looking for a WIRS and WIAPS-accredited partner to deliver on an AMP8 programme across Hertfordshire, London, Surrey, Essex, Cambridgeshire, or Berkshire, we can help.

The five services water companies, Tier 1 delivery partners, and capital programme teams use us for most.

The questions water company procurement teams and Tier 1 contractors ask us most.
We are a regular delivery partner for Affinity Water and Thames Water, handling repair and maintenance, main laying, leak detection, and metering work on their networks. We are accredited under WIAPS (Water Industry Approved Plumbers Scheme) and WIRS (Lloyd’s Register self-lay provider scheme).
We are WIRS accredited (self-lay provider via Lloyd’s Register), WIAPS approved, and hold ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 for quality, environmental, and health and safety management. Yes. We run 24/7 standby crews for emergency burst mains, line stopping, and reactive repair work, seven days a week. We deliver within KPI on some of the most challenging repairs in the Affinity Water network, including complex deep repairs, concrete encapsulations, and large-diameter linestops.
Yes. We deliver multi-phase mains replacement, main laying, and leakage reduction programmes as a Tier 2 delivery partner to Tier 1 water company frameworks, as well as direct to the water company. Scale ranges from a single burst repair to multi-kilometre main laying and network-wide leakage reduction schemes.
From our Hertfordshire depot we cover Hertfordshire, London, Surrey, Essex, Cambridgeshire, and Berkshire as standard. For larger water company programmes we travel further across the South East and nationally, and we have satellite teams running out of Heathrow and Affinity Water depots at Rickmansworth and Staines.
Yes. We handle pipe bursting, slip lining, cut-and-replace rehabilitation, and lead pipe replacement work for ageing water networks. Much of this work is planned around AMP programme priorities and customer impact constraints. We self-deliver the full scope, from survey and design through to reinstatement and handover.
Yes. We regularly operate as a Tier 2 delivery partner for Tier 1 water company framework contractors. Our WIAPS and WIRS accreditations, ISO triple certification, Constructionline Gold status, and Achilles registration are all in place to integrate cleanly into Tier 1 procurement processes. We hold our own insurance, carry our own plant, and deliver full scope with our own teams.
Yes. We support Affinity Water’s AMP8 delivery through our repair and maintenance framework, and we deliver main laying, mains rehabilitation, leakage reduction, and metering work aligned to AMP8 capital programme priorities. We are set up to move on AMP8 workstreams at pace for water companies and Tier 1 delivery partners across the South East.
Yes. Our own field teams handle the full scope, from excavation and pipe laying through to chlorination, pressure testing, reinstatement, and final sign-off. One team, one point of contact, one set of accreditations. That removes the co-ordination risk and accountability gaps that come with stitching multiple subcontractors together on a water company scheme.
All our repair and maintenance work for Affinity Water is delivered against defined KPIs for response time, repair quality, customer impact, and sign-off. We have been delivering to water company specification for over 40 years and build our teams, scheduling, and paperwork around meeting those standards on every job.
From a burst main at 2am to a multi-kilometre capital scheme, we welcome the conversation. Over 40 years of water infrastructure experience. Full turnkey. One phone call away.
