The brief
Affinity Water called us in to a branch cut out on a 1200mm strategic main at Chertsey treatment works. 1200mm is trunk-main scale, and anything at that size within a live treatment site carries its own set of constraints: confined site access, adjacent plant to protect, and limited tolerance for operational disruption. The job was raised under the Affinity R&M framework.
Our approach
A branch cut out is what it sounds like. The section of pipework at the branch connection is isolated, cut out of the main, and the replacement or dead-end made good. On a 1200mm main that’s a serious piece of work: excavation depth, pipe weight, and the physical handling of sections at that diameter all scale up fast. Chris, Tyler, Dan and Michael led the job on site.

Outcome
Job completed on site. One of two separate 1200mm jobs we’ve carried out at Chertsey works for Affinity Water, the other a 1200mm leak repair in September 2023.
